Pre-Holiday Rush

Back from the brief vacation. Not much to report beyond getting some cleaning done and some books bought. Major change was the arrival of the joint Christmas gift Melissa and I gave each other -- a new mattress.

Not very exciting, but the old one was nearly 10 years old and too many days waking up with an aching back made the decision easy. Still getting used to the new one. It's softer, so I'm still out of alignment a bit, but I'm not as sore as I was on the old one. And since the new mattress is a king, while the old was a queen, there's more room for being uncomfortable. :-)

The rest of the pre-holiday preparation will get done this weekend. Part of it involves finally clearing out the pink room and moving my desk and bookcases over to it. I'll be able to write without interruption again until the wee hours. Which are really my most productive.

Lots of reading to do to finish on a good note for the new year. My unofficial run to read 52 books in a year will probably come in around 30-32. (I've three books going at the moment.)

Here's where I stand:

01 - Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson
02 - Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson
03 - Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson
04 - The Dark Tower by Stephen King
05 - Stone of Farewell by Tad Williams
06 - Monster by Jonathan Kellerman
07 - Dr. Death by Jonathan Kellerman
08 - Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett
09 - The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
10 - Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
11 - Reliquary by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
12 - Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
13 - His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
14 - House of Chains by Steven Erikson
15 - Conspiracies by F. Paul Wilson
16 - Flesh and Blood by Jonathan Kellerman
17 - Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik
18 - The Prestige by Christopher Priest
19 - Flood Tide by Clive Cussler
20 - Komarr by Lois McMaster Bujold
21 - Pyramids by Terry Pratchett
22 - Old Man's War by John Scalzi
23 - The Sword of Shanarra by Terry Brooks
24 - Creepers by David Morrell
25 - Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett
26 - Eric by Terry Pratchett
27 - The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde
28 - Goblin Quest by Jim C. Hines
29 - The Fourth Bear by Jasper Fforde

I'm working on a Robert Jordan, a Jim Butcher, and a Steven Erikson. All of which does nothing to catch me up with books I own but haven't read. I really shouldn't have bought any new books this week, but I couldn't resist, finally picking up some I've eyed for a while. Specifically, Four and Twenty Blackbirds by Cherie Priest/cmpriest, Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy/mizkit and Khai of Khem by Brian Lumley.

If I wanted to map out a list of books to read next year, I could list 52 or more easily. Might just do that as a resolution.
