Bookworm Meme

Tagged by tbclone47

1. Grab the nearest book
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag 5 people

I'm only doing this meme because of the synchronicity involved in the two nearest books -- The Crimson Serpent by Kenneth Robeson and The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril by Paul Malmont. The former was published in August 1939 by Street & Smith. Robeson was the nom de plume of pulp writer Lester Dent and is one of the Doc Savage books. The latter in 2006 by Simon & Schuster, and is an homage to the Pulp Era that features Lester Dent as one of its main characters.

The 3 sentences from Serpent:

The bronze man stood at the edge of the fire pit. Ham jumped and Doc caught him by his feet. He held him like a powerful stage acrobat.

The 3 sentences from Death Cloud Peril:

Lester stood up. Monk looked enviously at his height and said, "I bet if you had a son he'd be taller than you."
Lester smiled and tousled the boy's hair.
