25 Days Until Christmas

Well ... it feels like it's 25 days to Christmas. Actually it's 25 days to Easter. But it feels better than that.

Back when I took this whole thing serious for the first time, I sat down and wrote a novel. I started it in October because I'd just finished a Stephen King novel, Desperation, and King's books generally come out in October. At least, the years where he doesn't publish more than one. And since October's the month I was born, the latest King makes shopping for presents simple.

I finished that book, Side Effects, about 18 months later. It's the fastest time so far for me to write a novel. Second, third and fourth attempts are either half complete or in pieces. Fallen is the closest I've come to writing something at novel length and completing it.

Coincidentally, I reached the end of SE on Easter Sunday. And with today's 2,250 words I'm stepping up to the plate and doing my best Babe Ruth. The pace is respectable enough anyway. Novel In 90 is very good to me. If I can keep going, do the Little Engine That Could thingy, I'll make it through the rewrite by Easter Sunday. Of course, a lot depends on what length the book actually requires.

So ... today I feel really good. It is the first day of Christmas. Except I didn't get a partridge in a pear tree. I got to 305 pages. :-)
